PADI Open Water Diver Certification Course
The open water diver course has three parts: Knowledge Development Online, Confined Water Pool Session and Open Water Training Dives.
Students must learn on their own using digital teaching materials (PADI eLearning or PADI OW-Touch) to understand diving theory, concepts and terms necessary to safely enjoy diving. Short exercises, quizzes, knowledge reviews and a final exam will help you assess and confirm learning as you go.
The confined water pool session will introduce you to all the diving skills necessary to be a confident diver. You will enjoy making one or more mini dives, introducing the same steps you will follow when diving in the ocean.
The open water dives are spread out over two days. Skills learned in the pool are reinforced in an ocean environment. This portion of the course can be scheduled over a full weekend or any week day.

Learn at home at your own pace. Your first step in scuba diving starts with digital learning!
If you have an internet connection, you can complete the study portion of the Open Water Course with your computer or tablet. With e-learning you can study anywhere, and all the quizzes and even final exams can be completed online.
You can study on the go! The e-learning materials are accessible anywhere or anytime
You can choose which device is most convenient for you to study with. You can download the app on your smartphone or tablet, or study at home with your laptop or desktop computer. Not only that, you can choose which language you'd like to study in, so e-learning is available to anyone.

Pool Lesson
After studying the e-Learning, the next step is the pool lesson for your first time underwater.
Get accustomed to exploring the underwater environment in a fresh water pool. During the summer months we use an outdoor pool, and in the winter we use an indoor pool.
This will be your first experience learning diving skills underwater with a PADI instructor! EastDive's Open Water Diver course includes all the necessary rental equipment. Students have the option of renting drysuits or diving computers.
Pool lesson take only one full day. They run from 8:00am to 4:00pm, including lunch time. There is a total of 6 hours training in the pool. |
Ocean Training
After the pool lesson you will stay overnight in Izu Peninsula for 2 days of ocean training. You'll do 2 dives on each day (4 dives total).
Students can learn to dive in the beautiful underwater environment of the Izu peninsula, which offer various kinds of coral, tropical fish and underwater critters. With Japan's warm climate, diving can be enjoyed all year round. In the summer, the water temperature is 26 degrees celsius (78.8°F) and in the winter the lowest water temperature is 14 degrees (57.2°F).
Izu Peninsula is one of Japan's major dive sites. Staying overnight is the preferred way to complete the course. Please consult with us if you prefer separate day trips!
Students can request both pool lessons and ocean training dives on an overnight tour. Would you like a weekend trip or a weekday trip? We can customize the course to fit your schedule. |

PADI Certification
When you finish the Open Water Diver Course, EastDive and PADI will email you a Digital Certification. This contains your photo, ID number and any other important information you'll need to show that you're a certified diver. This means that you'll be ready to go diving the very next day!
Additionally, you will be issued a Gold Certification Card. It takes approximately 7 to10 days for this to arrive from the PADI office to your home. You don't need to fill out any forms in order to process your certificate, we'll take care of everything. As a 5 Star ID Center, here at EastDive we're licensed to carry out diving courses all the way from Beginner to the Instructor Development Course. We were awarded this status back in November of 2006.
